Update on the Restructuring Committee

The first restructuring committee meeting for KAI RID is set for Sunday October 27, 2019 at the Emporia Public Library.  Committee members include Jenni Mosiman, Jennifer Mason, Jacob Marshall, Katie Kleinschmidt, Kim Enos, Matt Gwynn, Stephanie Wilcox, Teri Sturgeon, Allison Gile, Amanda Wittman, Caitlyn Myer, Luella Wilson, Kimberly Heintz, Spencer Rizi, Marisa Hurd, Lisa Bolding-Ballenger, and Robin Olson.  Kim Anderson and Juliana Ladd are also contributing to the restructuring effort. Job Opening

The Internal Revenue Service has two openings in Kansas City, MO for certified sign language interpreters. Applications are being taken between September 18th and October 9th.

Town Hall Meetings

Topics to be addressed include:

  • KCDHH visor placard program
  • Strategies for positive interaction with law enforcement
  • Communications access in crisis situations
  • Emergency preparedness & 911 system
  • Other topics raised by the community

All meetings will include ASL/English interpreters and captioning services.  KCDHH encourages individuals, community service organizations, law enforcement representatives and others interested in the above topics to participate in these events.

At the June 29, 2019 Annual Meeting, KAI-RID voted to form an ad hoc committee to explore how best to restructure our organization. The committee is being finalized and is planning for the first meeting in September. Stay tuned for updates through email, social media, and this website!

KAI-RID presents Interpreting Skilled Trades Workshop and our Annual Business Meeting.

Does the idea of interpreting auto mechanics make you break out in a cold sweat? Don’t know a philips head screwdriver from a spatula? Wonder what all those colorful wires mean? Come learn from skilled Deaf tradesmen at this informal, interactive workshop. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn!

Saturday, June 29th, 2019, 10:00am-12:00pm at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont, Lawrence, KS. Stay for lunch (included) followed by the KAI-RID Annual Business meeting from 1:00-3:00pm. Workshop worth 0.2 CEUs Professional Studies sponsored by Interpretek. $15 for KAI-RID members, $25 for non-members. The language of this workshop and business meeting will be in ASL.
